New Year Resolutions

As we are 15 days into the new year, we hope 2019 is starting off great for everyone! Our aquarium and staff is having a great 2019 so far. We wanted to share some of our new years resolutions with you all! Feel free to share yours too and tag us in them on Facebook (Florida keys aquarium encounters), on Instagram (Flkeysaquariumencounters), on twitter (flkesae) or on Google+ (Florida keys aquarium encounters). We would love to hear what you are all looking to accomplish this new year!

One of our main goals, not just this year, but every year is to be enviormentally concious. We are looking forward to continuing to “Skip the Straw” and only give a straw if someone secifically asks for one. Straws are easily discarded in the wrong places, and cause more harm to nature and wildlife than people think. We have drastically reduced the amount of single use plastic we give out in the café, just by cutting back on straws and drink lids alone. If you do use a straw or lid, or any plastic materials, we have blue recycling bins around the entire property. Please Recycle! This year we hope to continue cutting back on our single use plastics and look forward to being more enviromentally friendly.

This new year Aquarium Encounters is looking to spread more education and conservation awareness through our non-profit organization R3EACH. We will be participating in as many local outreaches as we can, as well as participating in manatee rescues. If you visit the aquarium this year catch one of our many animal feeds throughout the day, you may hear our marine biologist talk about marine life conservation, and enviromental impacts we humans have. We encourage guests to ask as many questions as they can! In 2019 we also hope to reach our goal of funding for our Great Hammerhead Project. Once we reach this goal, we can start purchasing satellite tags that we hope to use in tracking Great Hammerheads. There is still so much to learn about this great species of shark and we hope inturn that R3EACH can educate the public on these sharks.

Our goal for 2019 is to “take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, and kill nothing but time.” Enjoy 2019, we hope you spend some of it here with us!
